Glossary
Retargeting (remarketing)
Definition
Retargeting is showing ads to people who have already interacted with a business — visited the site, watched a video, added to cart — to bring them back.
Example
Someone looks at a sofa in an online store and leaves; for the next few days they see an ad for that sofa on Instagram.
Common mistakes
- Showing the same ad too often, until it annoys people.
- Continuing to show ads to people who have already bought.
- Collecting visitor data without the consent that privacy laws such as the GDPR require.
