Glossary
llms.txt
Definition
llms.txt is a proposed plain-text file at the root of a website (/llms.txt) that gives AI tools a short, structured summary of the site and links to its key pages.
Example
A company puts its name, what it does, its services with prices and its contacts into /llms.txt, so an AI agent reading the site gets the facts without parsing every page.
Common mistakes
- Expecting it to work like robots.txt: it is a voluntary convention, and not every AI system reads it.
- Letting it drift from the site: a file with old prices does more harm than no file.
- Stuffing it with marketing slogans instead of facts.
