Glossary
CPC (cost per click)
Definition
CPC is how much an advertiser pays on average for one click on an ad; on most ad platforms it is set in an auction and changes with competition.
Example
If a campaign spends $50 and gets 100 clicks, the average CPC is $0.50.
Common mistakes
- Chasing the cheapest clicks instead of the clicks that turn into customers.
- Comparing CPC between industries: legal and medical queries are far more expensive than entertainment.
- Forgetting that the ad budget is paid to the platform on top of the specialist’s fee.
