AI Overviews (Google)

Definition

AI Overviews are AI-generated summaries that Google shows at the top of some search results, with links to the pages the summary draws on.

Example

A search for “how often should a car be serviced” shows a short generated answer first, with source links beside it, and only then the usual list of results.

Common mistakes

Thinking a special tag or file is needed to appear there: Google says ordinary SEO fundamentals apply.
Judging a page only by clicks: people may read the answer and click less, while the brand is still seen.
Ignoring them in reports: impressions from these answers are counted in Search Console together with regular results.
